CHRC researchers coordinate the use of a pioneering virtual technology to promote nurses' mental health
The XR2ESILIENCE project, coordinated in Portugal by researchers from the CHRC and the UÉ Nursing Department, Manuel Lopes and Lara Guedes Pinho, uses a pioneering virtual technology, with augmented reality to combat stress and to promote the resilience of Nursing teams in Portugal and in five other European countries such as Austria, Germany, Croatia, Spain and the United Kingdom.
Based on the project, recently approved by the Horizon Europe Programme, it’s expected to improve the response capability to nurses who suffer from daily stressful situations. “This technology to support resilience training makes it possible to carry out immersive experiences and realistic simulations that take place in a safe and controlled environment with high levels of efficiency in terms of time and economics.”
The director of the Nursing School of São João de Deus from University of Évora and researcher and Board Director of the CHRC – Comprehensive Health Research Centre, says that this project "demonstrates the importance of this type of approach in the area of mental health. This project represents a comprehensive strategy in building resilience and explores the role of augmented reality in training nurses’ resilience.”
Professor at Nursing School of São João de Deus and CHRC researcher, Lara Guedes de Pinho also points out that “a randomized controlled study will be carried out to test the effectiveness of this methodology in combating stress and promoting the resilience of nurses” and also reveals that this project includes an economic health assessment coordinated by Ricardo Rodrigues, professor at the Management Department of the Higher Institute of Economics and Management (ISEG), at the University of Lisbon.
