Biography

Ana Catarina Sousa holds a PhD in Biology from the University of Aveiro. During her Post-Doctoral activities (2009-2018), devoted to environmental monitoring and toxicology, she worked at the University of Aveiro and University of Beira Interior (Portugal), the Center for Marine Environmental Studies (CMES), Japan; the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES), Japan, and the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), France. In 2018, she was an invited assistant professor at University of Hokkaido, Japan and between 2019 and 2021 she was a researcher at CICECO, Aveiro University. Currently, she is associate professor at the Department of Biology, University of Évora. 

Her main research interests and experience include endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), particularly the assessment of the levels, exposure pathways and effects in humans, pets and wildlife. She is also interested in the characterization of the levels of environmental contaminants in the indoor environment and the implications of such exposure towards metabolic and respiratory health.
