Biography

Gonçalo Figueiredo Augusto is an Assistant Professor (Adjunct) at NOVA School of Public Health since 2020. His research interests focus on the social determinants of health, public health policies and health system reforms. His interests also include research on HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections services and policies, particularly on key populations. 
Gonçalo Figueiredo Augusto completed his medical specialisation in Public Health in 2017. He has worked as expert for the National Health Council since 2017 and as Technical Advisor in the Ministry of Health from 2019-2022 and 2023-2024. Since 2016, he is a member of the Portuguese team of the Health Systems and Policy Monitor network, from the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies. He has worked as a consultant for the World Health Organization and the European Union in projects related to HIV/AIDS in Portuguese Speaking African Countries and to health system reforms. Since 2019, he has also been teaching public health at the NOVA Medical School.
Gonçalo Figueiredo Augusto graduated in Medicine from the University of Lisbon (2011), received a MSc in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (2014), and a PhD in International Health from NOVA University Lisbon (2020).
