Biography

Viviana has a Master degree in Biomedical Engineering, from Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa (ISEL). Currently, she is a PhD candidate in Biomedicine, at NOVA Medical School. Her research goes towards innovation and precision medicine, studying metabolomics to develop predictive models, with machine learning. Her PhD thesis is “Metabolomics & Proteomics of Cerebrospinal Fluid in Neurocritical Patients - Predictive Models for Diagnosis and Prognosis”.

She has been a researcher at the Laboratory of Engineering & Health, from ISEL’ group, since 2017. Her line of work was directed to in vitro research, cell culture and metabolomics using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). She has experience with Electrical equipment, since she conducted several experimental works, exposing cells to electric fields, using a Pulsed Power (PP) generator, so she could study the effect of electroporation and Pulsed Electric Fields (PEF) on cells. This work sustained her MSc. Dissertation “The effect of Pulsed Electric Fields on cells metabolism and proliferation”.

Viviana was also a lecturer at Escola Superior de Saúde da Cruz vermelha Portuguesa (ESSCVP), until 2022, when she quit her position to dedicate herself to the PhD.
