Nuno Mendonça was placed 1st in the 4th Individual CEEC for junior researcher with his project IPHUNCTION
The Individual CEEC (Scientific Employment Stimulus) is a contract financed by FCT for Ph.D. researchers.
“In early 2021, I applied for the 4th CEEC Individual edition - junior researcher category while choosing NOVA Medical School and CHRC as my host institutions. In November, I received great news that my application had been successful with a score of 9.49/10, which placed me 1st in the Health Sciences panel.” Nuno Mendonça said.
Nuno will be receiving a 6-year contract, giving him the professional stability needed to apply for external funding, essential to develop his project IPHUNCTION.
IPHUNCTION is focused on fighting morbidity in the last years of life, where the ultimate goal is to increase quality of life and decrease the immense strain on European healthcare systems.
“Nutrition and physical activity are major modifiable risk factors to reduce morbidity, disability and death. Adequate protein intake and higher physical activity can slow down the decline of muscle mass and function with ageing, which in turn can reduce the incidence of disability and morbidity. IPHUNCTION proposes to determine the synergistic effect of these two interventions in reducing the decline of physical function in older people” Nuno Mendonça said.
