Scientific Publication in the area of Behavioral Sciences authored by Marta Moreira Marques was distinguished by NOVA Science Innovation Day

Marta Moreira Marques received a recognition diploma from NOVA Science Innovation Day, regarding the scientific publication with high impact from the National School of Public Health - NOVA between 2021-24, measured through FWCI (field weighted citation index).

Every year, NOVA Science Innovation Day recognizes the publications with high impact from each associated school and this year the National School of Public Health – NOVA had the researcher Marta Moreira Marques awarded for her scientific publication “The Behavior Change Technique Ontology: Transforming the Behavior Change Technique Taxonomy v1" (https://doi.org/10.12688/wellcomeopenres.19363.1), in which Marta is the first author.

This publication describes the development of a methodology for behavioral change techniques, which will allow its application to classify all techniques that are used in behavioral change interventions. This scientific article comes from one of the largest projects in the area, “Human Behavior Change Project”, in which researcher Marta Moreira Marques is involved.

This methodology is and will be one of the works in the area of behavioral science with the greatest impact in the coming years, because it allows researchers who are developing and carrying out interventions in practice, to use this set of techniques to assist in their reports, whether in their studies and articles, indicating the techniques used, and how to use it to select techniques that will be developed in their interventions, like how to set goals, self-monitoring, emotion management, among others.

“By using this classification, it means that we can have a way of describing what happens in interventions that seek to change behaviors, such as promoting physical exercise, medication adherence, etc. and have an adequate accumulation of evidence. Using this classification will allow us in a few years to be able to say that for this behavior and for this health context, interventions that use these techniques are those that could be, for example, the most effective.” – explained the researcher.

This distinction made by NOVA Science Innovation Day brings an important milestone in the area of Behavioral Science research, recognizing it as an essential inclusion for the different areas of research within health.

“The impact is really very big in the context of the research community and practical application, so it's really a very exciting and exciting work, and for me personally it was very good to have this recognition from a publication with high impact within the National School of Public Health, even considering that a few years ago I joined the CHRC and last year at the School. It is really great to see UNL recognizing this work and this is another impetus for us to place Behavioral Sciences as the central point in the work that is being done in the health area and particularly in the work being done within the scope of the CHRC. It’s the first time that a publication in the areas of Behavioral Sciences, in this case applied to health, has been recognized in this context.” – said Marta.
