This Thematic Line (TL) focuses on tailoring diagnosis and medical treatment to the individual characteristics of each patient. This approach is anticipated because of the increasing knowledge that a one-size-fits-all approach to healthcare does not effectively address the complex nature of high-burden diseases, which significantly impacts public health and healthcare systems globally. The objective is to develop personalized therapeutic and diagnostic strategies that improve patient outcomes, enhance the efficiency of healthcare delivery, and reduce the overall burden of diseases with high incidence, morbidity, or mortality. These include diseases that are prevalent, have significant mortality or morbidity rates, and represent substantial healthcare costs. TL is structured around the collaboration of several research groups, each with expertise in areas critical to the advancement of personalized medicine. These groups include Nutrition, Human Kinetics, Behavioural Science, Patient Care, Mental Health, Oncology, Cardio-Respiratory, MSK, Infection, Human Genetics and Digital Health. The organization of these researchers into an interconnected TL facilitates interdisciplinary research and innovation, pooling resources, knowledge, and methodologies to address the complexities of personalized medicine in a holistic manner, fostering the cross-fertilization of ideas across translational and clinical applications, and amplifying the potential interdisciplinary synergy. Each group's research focus contributes essential knowledge and innovations that support the overarching goal of personalized medicine: tailoring prevention, diagnosis, and treatment according to the individual characteristics of each patient. By integrating insights from genetics, nutrition, exercise prescription, behavioral science, and specific pathologies, these groups collectively advance the practice of medicine from a one size-fits-all approach to one customized to the needs and characteristics of individual patients, particularly those with high-burden diseases. This shifts the medical emphasis from reaction to prevention, thereby reducing trial-and-error prescriptions. This alignment ensures that the thematic line is well-equipped to address the complex challenges of developing and implementing personalized medical strategies, ultimately improving patient outcomes and efficiency within the healthcare system. 220/234 about:blank 4/19/24, 11:36 AM about:blank The mission and vision align with the strategy of the R&D Unit by fostering innovation in healthcare through personalized medicine.
