Public Discussion based on the Curricular Unit “Thesis Project” - PhD Program in Sciences and Technology on Health and Well-being
NOVA University of Lisbon, University of Évora and CHRC are organizing a Public Discussion based on the Curricular Unit “Thesis Project”, within the scope of the PhD Program in Sciences and Technology on Health and Well-being. This cycle of PhD studies results from a process of intense collaboration between academic institutions and research centres, with 3 central aspects that underpin its relevance:
a. perspective anchored in transdisciplinarity. It is also accepted that health interventions cannot continue to be developed based on models centered on professions and these organized in monolithic, corporate and hierarchical structures, and must be transprofessional. Considering the social determinants of health, health interventions should not only be clinical in the strict sense, but also organizational, social and political. Research is a determining element for the quality of care provided, and therefore must integrate the skills of health professionals in order to allow a rapid translation of knowledge into health care;
b. The PhD as a response to professional development needs, insofar as training and qualification in Health and Well-Being Sciences and Technologies constitutes a way of strengthening the skills of human capital and developing rigorous instruments to understand complex health situations and intervene in problem-solving;
c. The PhD as a path of co-constructed development – through the transversal skills course (CCT), in which aspects such as ethics in research, scientific dissemination, among others, are developed.
In total, 42 PhD students will present their thesis projects between July 1-5 at the National School of Public Health in Lisbon, at the Colégio do Espírito Santo of the University of Évora and will also be broadcast online.
