CHRC researcher João Conde won the third edition of the Ana Lázaro Cancer Research Grant.

CHRC - Comprehensive Health Research Centre researcher João Conde has won the third edition of the Ana Lázaro - Cancer Research Grant, worth €70,000, with the PediCancerGel project, an innovative intranasal therapeutic platform for the treatment of medulloblastoma, the most common malignant brain tumour in children.

Developed in collaboration with Isabel Fernandes, a researcher at NOVA Medical School, the project uses a nanogel capable of delivering drugs directly to the brain through the olfactory and trigeminal pathways, bypassing the blood–brain barrier and enabling a more targeted and potentially less toxic therapeutic approach.

The funding will allow the team to advance regulatory preclinical validation and prepare for the first clinical trials in children. The Ana Lázaro - Cancer Research Grant, promoted by NOVA Medical School and funded through the legacy of dancer and choreographer Ana Lázaro, supports projects that accelerate the transition from laboratory research to clinical practice in oncology.
