Portuguese research recognized in Europe.
Cláudia Marques, CHRC researcher and faculty member at NOVA Medical School, has been awarded the 2026 Exploratory Research Grant from the European Society of Clinical Investigation (ESCI).
The project will investigate how bacterial DNA from the gut microbiota may contribute to the progression of obesity, helping to explain why some individuals develop metabolic complications while others do not.
This research has the potential to identify new therapeutic targets for one of the most impactful chronic diseases affecting public health.
